With a Corolla XRS. In my 4 cylinder Sonata. I think he won (No surprise there). It was close, though (But only because I was on the inside). I need a fast car again...

Man, I wouldn't feel bad. I met a Corolla S owner at Cars & Coffee last week that told me the Corolla S has a special engine over the regular Corolla and is super fast. He said his stock Corolla S is faster than a FR-S! No wonder you got smoked.

Isn't the S just an appearance package and you need the XRS to go faster? (my old roommate had an XRS)

I'm hoping that was a joke, the most powerful Corolla (2004-2006 XRS, not the S model) has 150HP, and in 2014 it's down to 140. The S package doesn't add a better engine, it's purely a styling package, and in 2014 actually has only 132 HP and weighs 200lbs more than the FR-S.

Yes, the XRS. My phone apparently thinks that the letter "X" is the acceptable substitute for XRS, and that "s" is what will change to after you've fought with it for 2 minutes and thought you've won

I pulled up next to an older Mustang (fifth gen) at a red light this morning. I'm guessing it was a v6 auto. I had to keep reminding myself that this is how you can get yourself arrested. Nothing came of it. Actually, I dont even think the mustang driver was going fast enough down the street to hit the speed limit.

I can understand beating a Sonata (I would still own the Sonata though) but the claim of taking on an FR-S (Mazdamonkey's post) is just silly.

The guy was a hundred percent serious! That was his justification for choosing a new Corolla over everything else better on the market. When I told him he was insane and all the S model added was a body kit, he said the Toyota salesman said it was definitely faster with a "built" engine!! Ha!

Kid was only like 17, though. He has so much to learn.

I won one of those against a 1.6 Hyundai Coupe/Tiburon... In a 1.1l hatchback with 59 horsepower (when new). I chalk it up to the power of foot-to-the-firewall lunacy, and a 700kg/1600lb kerb weight. My car was originally designed in an era when 'lightweight' was considered a selling point.

One night I was driving with two friends in the car. It was fairly late, dark, no traffic around (it's Wichita, KS, there's barely any traffic most of the time, but at night it's dead)

We get stuck at a stoplight next to some brotruck. There's no cars for miles. I jokingly start revving the engine as if to say let's race. All of a sudden the brotruck just takes off. The light was still red, he just said fuck it and drove off.

The best part? It's not the only time that's happened. I've seen at least 5 people just go 'screw this, I'm going' and run a red light. It confuses me.

what do you drive? you should have waited for the green and blown past him. i'd imagine the majority of those are slow. I was right down the street from where I got pulled over and there were cars everywhere so no dumb activities for me.
